War-torn country in southwest Africa, sandy and dry to the south, tropical to the north, with a 950-mile coastline facing the South Atlantic Ocean. "The waves are there, and if you're a goofyfooter, it's paradise," Hawaiian surfer Randy Rarick wrote in 1975 after spending six weeks in Angola. "So far as we could tell, there's only been a handful of surfers in the south, and no one in the north." ...
