Easygoing, hardworking Southern California filmmaker, best known for his 1976 feature A Matter of Style. Soderberg was born (1947) in Los Angeles, raised in Manhattan Beach and Palos Verdes, and began surfing at age 13, at Torrance Beach. That same year, Soderberg caught a screening of Bud Browne’s Surf Happy and by age 15 he was filming his buddies at Manhattan Pier, using a new 8mm Kokak Brownie...
