"JACK IS NIMBLE, JACK IS QUICK: YOU GUYS SHOULD DO AN ARTICLE ON JACKIE DUNN" (1970)
"Jack is Nimble, Jack is Quick," uncredited, ran in the April 1970 issue of Petersen's Surfing magazine. Dunn was 13 years old. This version has been lightly edited.

Alright . . . . At Honolua Bay, Jackie Dunn rides as well as the seasoned pros. Some say he’s as good as Jeff Hakmanl was a decade ago when he was blowing minds at Sunset. Jackie, a rail-thin goofy footer who wears his trunks under his school clothes, has ridden Honolou at its biggest with| authority.
Mrs. Dunn, a Newport, California transplant, moved to Maui to avoid Jackie’s constant immersion in cold water. "In California, Jack would surf in the morning and when school ended, every day, no matter what the conditions. He always had a cold, so it was either pneumonia, give up surfing, or move."
Does Mrs. Dunn worry about him in big surf? “Not in the least. Everybody looks after Jackie,” exclaimed Mrs. Dunn, “and this year he’s going over to Oahu to ride Sunset.”
Jackie Dunn is an aggressive surfer and is obviously aware for his years. He rides tall on his board, appearing tranquil and calm, even under heavy conditions. Although Dunn is quick and nimble, he takes his share of wipeouts, which (to be fair) are frequent and heavy because of his deep wave positioning. Jackie puts himself behind and in the hook most of the time, seldom leaving the curl for green water.
In other words, a guts-up little fellow for sure.
