I haven't spent a ton of time on the site, but it looks to me that the whole point of Network A, the year-old online sports channel, is to remind us that surfing is ruled by long-legged bikini’d surfer-models under the age of 25. 

, starring Alana Blanchard and costarring Alana Blanchard's read end, is in its second season. Now, right on time, here comes the Laura Enever vehicle—although nearsighted viewers may not be able to tell the difference.

 Network A’s new quarterly webisode, dropped this week and it’s eight-plus minutes of high-end washed-out visuals accompanying breezy introspection on tour life from everybody’s favorite blonde Aussie fashion plate/pro surfer. It's geared toward young females, which of course I am not, but as a surf culture critic I'm financially obligated to watch.

I’m going to go out on a limb here—not that far out on a limb, mind you; more of a very thick, supportive branch—and guess that 

 is paid for by Billabong. Many, many, long and caressing shots of her outfits. Sometimes the clothes are still attached to the hangers on which they were shipped. At one point, Laura attends a 12-year-old’s birthday party, and gives the little girl—wait for it—clothes! So what we're looking at here, really, is an eight-minute commercial. Not surprising, really. The ASP tour, if you're just a little bit cynical, is basically a nine-month-long commercial when viewed through the proper.

Even so, in this 30-something-year-old male’s opinion, 

, right out of the gate, is the second-best surf show on Network A. (

, the reality show about very young pro surfers creeping it up in a North Shore rental, is the best, with “best” meaning most compelling—not actually good in any sense of the word, but attention-sucking as all hell.) 

 is worthwhile in a couple of ways. One, closeup shots of the star busting some amazing rail turns. She is a deeply talented surfer. Two, damn if Laura doesn’t cry at the end when she loses early at the first event of the 2013 ASP season. Some honest-to-God emotion in what is otherwise a clothes ad. I like.

The rest of the show is pretty much just slow-motion shots of Laura walking around in a button-down shirt over bikini bottoms (and yes, usually shot from behind, because that’s just how this industry works), and Laura getting dolled up for the ASP banquet. But it’s that crying at the end that’s interesting. Not because I like seeing people upset, but because I like that Laura cares so much about the tour. She’s one of the best surfers in the world, but also one of those pros who doesn't in the least need the tour for a surfing career. That fact that she is nonetheless emotionally invested to performing well—I like that fire, that spark.

But allow me to end on a slightly different tangent. Surf world: would it kill you to make more webisodes for grownups? We’re online too. I’ll watch pretty much any surfy video I can get my hands on, but why are almost all the scripted surf shows for the kids? You think I feel good about reviewing shows like
