SUNDAY JOINT, 12-10-2017: EOS SAVED - "I KNOW WHO I WORK FOR!"
Hey All,
I won’t announce it publicly until Wednesday, but I won’t keep you in suspense.
The fundraiser is a success. EOS lives!
You guys saved it. The whole online project—Encyclopedia, History of Surfing, Above the Roar. You shook the trees on EOS’ behalf and basically we slammed out what was supposed to be a month-long fundraiser in just 10 days. Not in my most optimistic moments did I think it would go this well. I am grateful beyond words, and exhausted, and relieved, and dying to get back to my everyday routine.
Thank you EOS subscribers.
Thank you EOS donors. (Here’s the donors’ list, by the way. I thrill not just to the length of it, but to the fact that we did this with zero help from big surf industry players. Suffice it to say, I know who I work for.)
The fundraiser sucked all my time last week, but before it launched I polished and posted “An Invincible Summer,” a look at Bruce Brown and Endless Summer, on History of Surfing. And with that, we’ve come to the end of HOS Chapter Four. Rolling on, here is “Revolution is Not a Dinner Party,” the opening section of Chapter Five—let the fire and fury and comedy of the shortboard revolution begin!
I’ll leave it there. There’s a Manhattan and a prepped Scrabble board waiting downstairs. If we could only form a line here on 9th Ave West I would hug each of you in turn, but instead I’ll just say so long and thanks again and see you next week.
Matt
