Upbeat, guitar-strumming scientist and surfer from Palm Desert, California; awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1987. Cram was born (1919) in rural Vermont, and attended college in Florida and Nebraska before earning a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Harvard in 1947.
