A wave or section of wave whose crest loops out and down into the trough to form a tube. Hollow sections are usually created as the wave moves over a raised section of underwater topography—a high spot on the reef or sandbar, for instance—and break with more power than nonhollow waves. Hollow waves are required for tuberiding. Pipeline, Teahupoo and Kirra are famously hollow surf breaks....
